lol, ok thanks for the info BUT form what i read there they are illegal to import out of there native country, not illegal to have even though i am glad i know that now thanks. I am gonna defiantly carry proof of purchase now thanks. Also gonna be cautious were and who i get them from. But this also convinces me to step up my game in the breeding business and try to get as many captive bred specimens as possible.

So again i ask does ANYONE know were i can get info on the parameters of the amazon river? Need help plz.

no, apparently it's a violation of the lacey act to have possession of illegally collected plants or animals. it doesn't matter who caught them or where you got them, if you have them you are considered to be breaking the law.

<H2 class=catchline>§ 3372. Prohibited acts

(a) Offenses other than marking offenses
It is unlawful for any person&#8212;
(1) to import, export, transport, sell, receive, acquire, or purchase any fish or wildlife or plant taken, possessed, transported, or sold in violation of any law, treaty, or regulation of the United States or in violation of any Indian tribal law;
(2) to import, export, transport, sell, receive, acquire, or purchase in interstate or foreign commerce&#8212; (A) any fish or wildlife taken, possessed, transported, or sold in violation of any law or regulation of any State or in violation of any foreign law;

here's the rest of the lacey act if you feel like looking it over.

i'm not sure where you can get the amazon parameters but there is a fair amount of captive breeding reports on the web that will tell you how they kept them.

So here is a question. What do you do with the animal if you already have it and didnt know when you bought it? Cause i wont kill it. Now i dont know what to do.

Well, when I was a kid my neighbor got a hold of one somehow, and it actually gave birth to a live baby, which my mom and I kept for quite a while.... I've never heard of them being illegal to keep, but maybe we had them was before it was illegal? Hmm.

Then I guess everyone in the trade should put their hands up and be considered outlaws.........

HAH!

truth is, it's hardly enforced unless you draw attention to yourself.

but it does happen, and it seems like they love to make examples out of the herp people.

The thing that makes me curious is there have to be people that like me want to make a species more popular int he trade from being captive bred so they dont have to collect from the wild. Wonder how you do that without breaking the law? Who do you contact so you dont get busted?

You start by not asking this type of question on a public forum... :)

t. natans are illegal to import or keep in the united states. however, i do still see them at pet shops now and then.

i wouldn't be telling the world that you have them unless you want fish and game knocking on your door with a warrant.

please don't think that i'm scolding you or something, i'm just trying to let you know what's what. :)

when i had them, they always tried to climb out of their tank, so keep a super tight lid. i wonder if they would benefit from having a portion of land with soil to burrow in, or if they were just trying to find a better water hole?

good luck with your pets, i love these little guys!
T. natans, is not illegal to keep, just illegal to import.
