Calling all fighters!

I wrestled in High School and boxed for 4 years in the Army so I've always loved a good boxer, the fluid movement of a good boxer is poetry in motion. MMA is IMO closer to what real "fighting" is about but being a hybrid of sorts it lacks the beauty and grace of any one of the mother disciplines individually. As far as the ring is concerned for me Boxing will always be the sweet science.

+1... the other guy is gonna have a tough time beating you if they cant take you down or knock you out. Lol

Boxing is good when standing but when standing but not so good if I take your feet out from under you. Every strike is an open opportunity for a take down.

Yeah I agree. Thats why I said wrestling is key also. Even though the only takedown I see most of the time is a double leg lol

I fully agree wit Tom0s statement about street fighters. And i believe that there is no chance ( unless you have years under your belt in martial arts and it all comes out automaticaly ) between a ring fighter and one of these.

Firtsly, imho, street fighters are mean, and not sport guys. My boys, due to their age, have the stupid chance of testing this allmost every weekend :(

However, having said that, the guys I nowadays see in MMA and that stuff have a much more mean look than the boxers and karate ( etc ) guys of yesterday. I think it must be related to their previous environment ( amd a lot must have fought a lot on the street )

I other words, through the eyes of an ancient guy. During my life I knew a lot of martial artists, that allmost never resorted to their skills in a real life situation ( even more, they diffused those situations ).

Nowadays, when I look at the MMA guys, I feel they are the sort of guy that gets out of his car in a traffic situation and realy kicks ass, regardless of his opponnents skills.

Last but not least, and i will finish, under portuguese law, my boys, being federated, are considered "weapons". If they have a problem, the penal consequences are way worse for them than, say, for me..

Is that so, stateside?

There is no law distinction unless you are certified by the state as say am instructor but then it also based on how the opposition's lawyer makes you look in front of the jury.

I trained in Chang Moo Kwan Tae Kwan Do, school wrestling, Combative Jiu Jitsu, Arnis & Kali, & Hapkido, and am still training at Shotokan.
