Jeez, guys, I cannot mess you...

I need to revise my techniques in dealing with such dangerous guys....
Don ' t want an elbow strike over the internet :)

What is arnis & Kali?

I started out with kickboxing which I believe is a very good base to build on. Its very well rounded except for if you where to be grounded. Im now moving on to muay thai which I see as an upgrade on what I already know. I feel that boxing is great in boxing but you can't take it anywhere out side of that unless you mix.

MT and BJJ, Judo. Nothing else matters.

And if people think that if they can fight in the street and be successful at MMA your a fool and I dare you to try your theory out in a real MMA gym. You get stomped. Just like I did. You will find that everybody in there is tougher than you. 30 seconds is a lifetime 3 min is an eternity. And that is an amateur round of MMA!. Forget about five min round like pros.

Guys used to come into the gym all the time saying " I want to fight MMA!" Get their butts kicked and never come back.

Fairfax jujitsu toughest guys I ever met!

Drew

Glad to see more fighters posts.

Miguel it's true now a days fighters are a lot different then say Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris.

Some one said that they it's hard for street fighters to change the ring style of fighting is not always true. I started fighting in the street. One day I met my old boxing couch and he told me many times that even with the lack of train in proper technique I had the most naterual talent he's ever seen. I was knocking dudes out with in maybe a few days of training.

my cousin would do that to new comers also. But it seemed the new was always pushed harder to test their limits.

Miguel, arnis and Kali are Filipino arts. They are hand to hand weapons training (the weapons included Kali sticks, knives, daggers, machetes, whips, sarongs, etc).

As far as MMA goes, here a bunch rough necks go in the gym, slap on some About attire, find a ring and call it MMA. I'm sure that the pros are going to beat me like a stray dog, but amateurs around here suck. I did tourney against a MMA gym for grappling, no contact, and they were good. But I have no doubt in my mind if it came to defending myself in the street I would live another day. I take martial arts for competition and exercise and self defense....as a back up. My Springfield Armory XDS is my first defense lol.

Insert Mike Tyson quote here "everybody's got a plan until they get hit" and people say he's not smart. Lol. I don't care for mma because I don't feel it is truly mixed. Mostly bjj kickboxing wrestling and boxing. I have a strong suspicion that if a true master were to enter these fights someone would die. Some of the martial arts are only meant for combat. I'm not buying into these guys having a chance against a shaolin monk or muay borat or silat master. Plus when I think mma I picture something like Jean Claude Van Damme's "The Quest"

"I'm not ignorant. I just find certain types of ignorance amusing"

I train in BJJ and have a purple belt under robert drysdale. I used to do Muay Thai as well, but did not have enough time in my schedule with school and mfking of course. Also used to do Judo. I dont claim to be an mma fighter or anything, but have submitted many big names on the mats. I simply love practicing BJJ and submission grappling (nogi), its like playing human chess.
