i don't know if u already did the repair or not but if i were you i would try and find a thinner walled tube than 40 to lessen the restriction if you are putting it on the inside.

Maybe its just the safety guy in me......but I would look into getting a new housing.

One thing I have found in my experience is when something like that breaks, it seems it is 10,000 times more likely to fail in the same spot.

Maybe Im not a risk taker, but that is a big tank and holds lots of water....and a spill that big is a mess anywhere...

After sleeping on this I must agree. That is my fear, that the damn thing springs a leak while I'm sleeping or worse yet while I'm out of town for a couple of days.

I'm going to try and contact Pentair today to see what a new housing would cost if at all available.

Worst case I have to buy an entire new unit and have an extra bulb, glass sleeve and other various extra parts.

Good thing I'm expecting a Tax Refund this year.

I'm going to look into this also. I was thinking maybe if I could get a piece to fit snuggly and bonded into the unit itself and forgo the broken piece.

This is a slow project so I still have some time.

Thanks again all !!

1) you may be able to get a new housing and move the guts

2) rough with coarse sandpaper before gluing

3) i would wrap the outside with fiberglass tape and epoxy for strength like west system epoxy

going with #1 :):)

best bet !!!

You are right, it just sucks. :)

You can never pay too much for peace of mind ;)

I emailed Pentair yesterday, a VP responded with the part number and game me a number to their customer service to order it. I called the number and the lady said they will not sell the housing directly to me and told me to go thru Big Al's where I originally got it from. Big Al's doesn't carry the part and says it will be about 4 weeks for them to get it in then another week to me. And at the time Big Al's didn't have a price for me, errrrrr :(

I replied to the Pentair VP late yesterday explaining the run around.
Hopefully good news this morning.

I did notice that Big Al's now has the entire unit new for $149. I think I paid $169 last year for it.

I was looking at it wrong, it's still $169.

Pentair just got back to me and it will be $105 + S&H. I think I'll just order a new one from Big Al's then I'll have an extra ballast, bult, quartz sleeve and etc. To buy a bulb alone is $50 or more.

I love kids. :)

Again I appreciate all of the help but I just fear the thing leaking or breaking again when I'm not home or sleeping.

Yup K9s also. Our one year old Puggle chewed up our new chair last week. :(

Have you tried a repair yet Bud8Fan?

If not I could be of some help, I've had to do more than 3 peoples share of these things.
