I got my red iguana last week. It's been about a decade since I owned one myself. I do still remember some things but not all of it. Over all he's pretty tame but is still learning to trust me. I've been working with him daily since I got and he is definitely showing improvements. Today as soon as I took off the screen top he tried to whip with his tail then ran up his branch out the tank and on to my shirt. Usually he would try to run away. There was no sign of aggression other then not wanting to be picked up. So now I'm just looking for more info I might need do the road like potty and leash training.

He's not mean at all really. There is a few things he doesn't like though. He doesn't like to have his chin scratched. He tried to bite me the first time but I think he's starting to understand that I don't want to hurt him. He just wacked in the face cause I almost dropped my phone while taking a pic of him.

The light in my room throws off his color he looks a lot better in person ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1398897902.512878.jpg

Nice mate bet when he's fully coloured up he looks amazing

I too haven't had reptiles for years now prob 15 yr ago my water dragon died he was a nightmare to settle I :banghead: I got him for free off a woman with was pregnant and wanted rid she also had a massive iguana in her living room going free really wanted it but at the time I was living at my parents house no there was no chance , the water dragon was bad enough that went down like a lead balloon :D
He'll get used to you and his new surroundings soon enough with daily handling , like you said he's probably still unsure if he's going to be hurt or under threat try giving him a few treats while he's sat chilling on your arm piece of fruit or mealworms I'm no expert on reptiles at all but this helped me with my lizard he eventually got used to me but went crazy and ran off if anyone came in the room for months

Thanks he's already starting to show nice color especially after he get his bath.

I had three when i was 15. One I had since I was like 10 or 11 my dad gave me him for my b day. He was 3' maybe bigger. He was like a puppy with scales. He used to sleep on my back at night like a guard dog and would charge at my dad when he would try to wake me up for school

What about the things that are most important to the iguana.... like its diet, what are you feeding it?
What are the air and basking temps like inside the cage?
Are you giving the animal any extra calcium along with some type of a uvb source for absortion?

dom just explained he's kept them and he isn't a moron I'm sure he knows or has researched!

My red iguana is very skittish! I really have to start working on her! Glad your back into reps!

I always sprinkle a little repashy super veggie supplement on her salad and imo it really helps with color. Has a lot of alfalfa and other good stuff! How old is urs?

I feed romain lettuce, carrots, red cabbage, kale, just about every kind of fruit and sprinkle repti calcium powers with d3 on it.

I have a retisun 5.0 and a inferred heat lamp for heating. Idk what's the cage temp at the moment cause I have to get a thermometer but if I had to guess I would 70* at the lowest point and around 90* at the highest point the iguana can get to.

Like vet said I'm no noob to reptiles. I owned several large snakes, iguanas , bearded dragons ,frogs and turtles. It's just been long since I owned one I want to make sure I get all my bases covered

Vet mine was alittle skittish at first but I want this guy to be as friendly as possible cause of my son. Honestly I don't know how long he is maybe 6 months to a year old.

How in the world do you leash train an iguana? I've seen the leashes for sale, but never thought of getting one. I had a 3' female that was pretty tame, but I would never treat it like a dog. They have their own agenda and pretty much just tolerate you because you feed it. Kinda more like a cat. Mine was somewhat potty trained but that's because they like to go in water or near water.
