Calling experienced iguana keepers

I used to keep a bunch of different reptiles: tokay gecko, golden tegu, iguanas, anoles, and a Burmese python. I had more iguanas than anything else. every once in a while one just has a bad temperament. The last iguanas I owned were a male and female breeding pair. She was great. He was mean, and nothing I did seemed to help.

My favorite will always be the Burmese. She was a great pet!
 
some years back I had a green iguana, got him at about 2" he passed at about 5.5 to 6ft. it was important to make sure not to come from above to pick him up, always from the side. no meat. they are not carnivores tho they love it, mine only got meat on
thanksgiving and Christmas, get a small veggie processor and throw kale, peas, mellon and the sutch and proccess it. forget lettuce, really hase no nutrition in it. and stay away from cruceferious(sp) veggies, not good for them. after about a year you are going to want to invest in some leather gaunts, they have grappling hook toes, they not ripping you on porpuse, just the way there toes and nails work.
 
bringing back memories, they love a good bath, use to put moe in the tub once a week, just filled enough to fill the first 2/3 of the tub so he had a dry pad to get on, beware will make him poop, if you feed iguana pellets constipation can be an issue of not enough avaluble water for him, the bath can help with this also.
 
Green iguanas can develop an attitude at sexual maturity (18-24 months). Rock iguanas usually don't develop this attitude, but you can never say this is fact. I have had Trouble (avatar) since a hatchling in 1997 he has always been tame except the first year and a half. He was nervous and flighty until he got some size
 
long as a male has a log to hump he happy, and will hump the log, or a stuffed iguana

I was thinking of getting him a female soon. But idk how to breed them. I also don't want him to become so mean that he can't be handled.

male iguanas get horny. just wait, you will need to be cleaning his basking log like washing a teenagers sheets. this started about the 2nd or 3rd year.
 
I would not get him a female. you need a large pin for that, not an incloser. they just bob there heads off at each other and fight.
 
Pops I plan on building a 6'x6'x6' cage. Idk if that's big enough for a pair but I know it's a lot bigger then most enclosures sold.
