Camshafts' new project. "The growout"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Got some free acrylic slabs today. Clear, blue, thin and thick...
They will be cut accordingly and welded into the sump to hold up the filter tray, hold up the tray under the scrubbies, probably make a sock holder built into the sump.....and whatever else..

I'll probably end up making an overflow box for my 30g salt tank with some of it too. Never tried to make one of those by hand. Figure it would be fun.

That's whatsup.

Word to the wise;
If you ever need pieces of acrylic for a project, find a local acrylic shop, go around back behind the building and jump into the nearest dumpster.

The things I do for my hobby LoL

But hey, when you start pushing 1000 gallons+ you have to start finding ways to lighten the load. Know what I mean?

Soon I hope. I neglected to pick up my 2'x2' panel of acrylic and some more weld on #16. And the place is closed Sat and Sun. So I'm s.o.l until Monday.....I was looking to have it finished by my B-day (20th), but we'll see how that goes.

But basically, all I need to do is finish up the sump, set it up and plumb it. So a week tops is my projection...

Yup. It's the only thing I recommend when doing something like this. You could use #4 for
certain parts. But #16 is made specifically for acrylic. Put it on and it basically ( in a nut shell) melts the two pieces together. good stuff.
And it only costs like 4 bucks for a whole tube were I get it. If you ask people who put together acrylic tanks and what not, they'll give ya the scoop on it.

mmmmmk....twist my arm.....

Here is the actual tank itself. These were taken right after i brought it home, before I started messing with it.
Can you guess where I got the tank? lol

And ya didn't even ask the guy with the pickup truck. :grinno:

I have an overflow that isn't being used right now if you want to model one after it. I made one about 20 years ago and glued it together with silicone. Not a good idea but it actually worked great for several years.
