If you're looking for record sized PBs you're not likely to catch them at those collection points. You will find the smaller variant Tems. However they're all pretty, colorful, and fun to catch.
You are right, it is a female and this is based solely on the shape of the head. You don't need to try to determine this any other way. Allow me to explain. If that Cichla is 26" long and it hasn't already developed the hump (indicative of being a male), then you definitely have a female.
I have an 18" male Cichla Intermedia and an 18" female Cichla Intermedia. The male started to develop his hump at around 12". The female's head is as smooth as can be even at 18". I also have a 15" female Cichla Intermedia and that is female too.
So let me say this...that's a fine looking female Temensis you got there.
