I think it has to do with the individual fish. This picture of the juvinile kenyi (blue) was "mr. tough guy". Now he is an adult (the yellow color) he has calmed down. The real pr:eek: k of the tank is this 3.5" red top kimpuna. This dude chases everyone.:nilly: 24/7

Nice photos... look professional.. good shot of the total color change.. is the yellow a male for certain.. and the tough guy is gorgeous,... but chasing is one thing and killing is another.. and he said it killed half the tank.. I know stress kills but that is unbelievable to have a mbuna do all that .

Thanks. Pictures help me think what im doing next!

Here is a couple more pictures of my african tanks

UPDATE:
***hole Kimpuna died. He was so fixed on eating his offspring that was released by the female (earlier then I could collect them) that he scraped himself up so badly against the rocks----- that he died from his own wounds. :screwy: :( She also died from being so weak from holding. :irked: But I do have 7 fry that I was able to save.

Are these the two parents that died,{although they Both look male to me} if so what a shame, they are beautiful, looks like the male was a fuelleborni with his snout like that. I am glad 7 fry survived for you.

This is my Convict tank, but I guess a similar setup would work well for Rift lake cichlids, plenty of rocky caves and places to hide, plants to dig up and gravel to move around!
