I was just at a fellow members house and he had a puffer cruising around his 300 gallon with clown loaches, koi, and cichlids. Pretty cool, he said if the puffer grows up around other fish it gets used to them. I want one, but know the biggest tank I could get would be a 200 gallon tank.
What species of puffer? You never know if a puffer will be aggressive or not to it's tank mates. Even one who played nice as a juvie, could one day wipe out the entire tank when mature.

Agreed, just because Mbus are good in some tanks doesn't mean other puffers will be. What works with juvenile puffers may change dramatically as they grow.

To offer some counter evidence, the Mbu we had in one of the ponds at work chewed on several rays and silver aros.

LOL, it's not the cost of the puffer you have to concern yourself about.

My Mbu lives with a giant Gourami and also a florida Gar. He played nice for a long time with the gar, but out of the blue took a couple of fins off him. Adding the gourami who is about 17-18 inches seemed to calm everything back down. My Mbu is about 7 inches ATM also. They can change temprament and bully things, just have to keep a close eye on it at ALL times.

If you need to ask, you can't afford to keep one. It'll cost you more then the fish, just to feed it for 6 months. Never mind the massive tank & filtration it needs...
