would the snake even be able to pierce the ganoid scales??

you bet it will

I would use tongs and hold the snake by the head and dangle the tail in the water to see if the gars would go for it. If they do I would cut off the snakes head and feed the body to them.
Gars may have antivenoms built up for Cottonmouths or Copperheads.....but I doubt it for Cobras.....I think you would just be killing your gar.

I would cut off the head so the snake couldn't bite him. Then the venom wouldn't harm the gar at all because venom is protein based. It can be digested just fine. I have taken a shot of rattlesnake venom before. ( really dumb drinking game)

i'd say do it, just to see what happens.
then update us.

in case it works, then great, it might actually be healthy!

but if your gar dies from the poison, then lesson learned.
and hey you helped us all by informing us to not feed gars with snake :)

Precisely! Hahahaha.

I doubt it will Miguel judging from the size of the snake. It might be 6" long but it's only 2 matchsticks thick. That's barely the width of my pinky. I don't think a snake that small has the strength to pierce the gar's scales.

IF it is a Cobra baby, you can be sure it will. One of the strongest bites, by far, of all venomous snakes.

I don't think it would be hard for a snake, even a small one, to pierce the scales. Just the sharpness of the fangs would allow it to, I would think.

one of the fangs, if not both, will find a way between the scales.

I suggest you let the snake loose. Do everybody, the Gar, the snake, us fish and herp lovers, a favour.

If you DO decide to feed it to the gar, take my suggestion and cut off the head first. Preferably you should release it. My curiosity is outweighed by my love of animals. OR keep it? Could be a cool pet.
