I purchased this blue crayfish at the lfs that was labeled as a Cherax Destructor, or the common "Australian blue yabby." I compared him to some pics on the web and it seems to me like the claws on this guy are much too small to be a real Cherax Destructor. I have a suspicion that this is actually a Procambarus Alleni, which according to what I read is actually a crayfish that can be found in the wild in Florida, not Australia. I'm hoping he's a real Australian yabby because they grow much larger than the Florida crayfish and I want this guy to get BIG, but I just can't tell for sure. So anyways....if you have some experience with these guys please take a look at these pics and see if you notice any identifying characteristics. Any info would be much appreciated. See below for the pics....by the way sorry for the crappy quality, I had to take them with a camcorder cuz I don't have a still camera.

Thanks for the info. I actually did a little more research and found an article that describes in detail how to identify the Cherax quadricarinatus, and mine definitely is one. If anybody is interested here is the link:

Thanks....and yes they do, that's how I was able to identify that mine was one for sure. That's what the "quad" in quadricarinatus stands for.
