Can you help identify my "yabby"??

In the wild, Males get WAY, WAY bigger than Females.
Especially as the yrs roll by.

Here's why..........

The wild females expend so much energy producing and caring for their eggs. They don't grow nearly as fast.

The males just carry on eating, growing & looking for other chicky babes

The same is true for captive crays if male & female are kept together.
Both M & F will grow bigger and much faster if they're kept in single sex tanks.

Interesting... on a couple different sites I've read that females get larger than males. This must only be true when they are kept in captivity. Thanks for the info.

On Average, when kept in single sex culture under optimal conditions and feed ratios ~

Males will grow 17% faster than Males in a mixed sex tank.
Females will grow 31% faster than Females in a mixed sex tank.

Yep. A genetically improved Yab. Grows the fastest out of any Redclaw and I'd say the biggest aswell???

Resulting from a cross of 2 strains of RC. One from the Flinders River & the other from The Gilbert.

Well you're off to a good start having her by herself.

There's not to much to worry about with these guys. Very hardy.
The main factors are water quality, temperature & food supply.

Nice clean water. Ph around 7.5 ish. Plenty of Oxygen.

They grow well from 24 to 32 deg celcius. Fastest growth is in the range from 27 to 29 deg. There's little or no growth below 20 deg celcius.

I run my RC tanks at 28 ~ 28.5 deg.

The usual balanced diet....Veggies, pellets & a little fresh meat.

That's pretty much all there is to it. The only other thing is time......
Unless you plan on giving her steroids....

Please note : I'm joking. I don't really recommend using roids

I'm jealous that you have that huge C. Destructor in your avatar. That's what I thought my C. Quad was when I bought her from the lfs. They had it mislabeled and I wasn't familiar enough with the physical characteristics to know the difference yet.
