Canister Filters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here is a pic of it in action, the cotton batting stuff sitting around the return just keeps the splashing/spritzing contained, I run 2 pieces of floss folded over on each other in the drip tray. It seems to work pretty damn good, you just gotta play around with it. I run this and 2 Eheim 2217's on my 180.

Sorry for whoring up the forums tonight guys, but I'm pretty bummed and this place is quickly become my salvation. Anyway, I'm looking to run 2-3 canister filters for my new tank-if I ever get it. Eheim is always an option, but their output and price seem less appealling with every passing day. I'm looking for a reputable filter that is reliable, quiet, and relatively inexensive. A DIY wet/dry isn't really an option because I don't have time for the headache. THe tank in mind is 180g, if that helps.

Filstar any good?
Ive heard filstars are good and not that expensive.I use fluvals as of now, thier ok ,the one thing I dont like is the primer, feels like your arm is gonna fall off after your done with it.They do work well other than that.filstar xp3,up to175 gals.-$108.00,fluval #404 up to 100 gals.-$109.99/http;//www.thatfishplace.com. Hope this helps ya :D

Thats a nice design, ill deffintely be lookin at that when I build mine :)

I just recently purchased a "knockoff" of an eheim 2028, and it worked fine for awhile but suddently stopped, and I was wondering if a wet/dry would be best for a 150

Where can you buy sheets of plexiglass to biuld your own filter? Since I was trying to biuld mine but couldn't find any sheets.

The problem with building your own sump is sealing the plexiglass..... you should use acrylic..... You will be money ahead to use a fish tank for the sump.

TG, look around at Craigslist.org. A guy in manhattan was selling a americle w/d
rated for 150 gallons, complete with everything.. .for 100 bucks !!

Would 3 Eheim 2217's @ 264GPH be alright? I'm planning on a Tigrinus, a dat or two, 3 discus, possibly a smaller ray, and maybe a silver arowana. It isn't going to be heavily stocked.

Howdy,

Why not one Eheim 2080?

That's where I got mine from. I am right now setting up a 220 gal tank. BTW: I use Sera Siporax (brought it with me from Germany, but it should be available on the internet). Great stuff, served me very well in the past!

I've never heard of that model. It sounds diesel though. I may loo into that. Figure I can get one of those and maybe another 2217 just for addition filtration. Any pics of the 2080? I've never seen one before.
