Canister?

You are welcome! I am happy to have someone someone else to share ideas and results with!

Let's start a new thread called something catchy like "Monster DE filter for the clearest water you have ever seen!!!". I did my build in a thread called "Mechanical filtration for a sump" and nobody ever read it. :-(

P.S. - I believe this is the exact DE that I ordered off of ebay. 25 lbs for $24 with shipping included. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Diatomaceous-Earth-Powder-Pool-Filter-25lbs-/130537873332?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e64a9dfb4 I read a lot about the quality of different DE powders and additives for pool DE. This is exactly what my DE sack looks like. My package states 100% Diatomaceous Earth. It has been working very well for me. 25lbs should last forever!

I hooked the QuietOne 3000 to the Hayward DE filter and knocked the DE off the screens with the handle on the Hayward. The QuietOne 3000 was a little hesitant to restart. The QuietOne 3000 has always been hesitant to start with any kind of head pressure on it even just 4 feet of tubing going right into the aquarium. It did start after a couple power cycles and the flow with the DE filter in the water return path SEEMS pretty much the same as it was when the sump emptied directly into the tank. The QuietOne 3000 is about the right size for the 35g Hex I have it on now. When I replace my leaking 110g I will want a bigger pump. I will also drill the new tank for a real overflow with a much better flow potential than my DIY overflow pipe.

I will say the quiet one is much MUCH quieter than my big pump and the silence is very refreshing! I don't know if I would buy another QuietOne pump because of the restarting issues it has had since it was new. I might consider the 4000 high pressure pump but I will probably go with a different brand next time.

If the quiet one works I expect my maxijet to work. I will see how it is in my 35 gallon and gauge what I should get based on it. I posted on your other thread, it was a pretty cool one surprised no one else jumped on board with it. We can either keep your old thread going or I'll start one when I get my new DE filter.

I'm considering getting a magnum canister with the bio-wheel simply because I like the return and how it agitates the tank surface. But would a magnum fit in my stand??? I don't know I'm getting really annoyed with this project. The stand has a obscenely small opening.
