Can't catch a fish

I am an avid catfisherman. Why would you start your catfishing adventures in a large lake? That would be the hardest place to hone your skills and get lucky. I would guess you dont have ponds to fish so I would recommend finding creeks/ small rivers in your area. The ones that no one fishes because they think there are no fish in them. You may be surprised. Maybe no monsters but no ones first cat is there biggest. Agree with cut minnows or cut bait. Maybe even worms to start with.

Come on over to catfish1.com and learn a thing or 2. Here is a link to my photo album of catches on there. Assuming the link works.

san pablo? you gotta start bass fishing. check this out http://calfishing.com/freshwater/18lber.html

if you're dead set on kitties, try shrimp. fish during low light conditions. i've caught a bunch of catfish while bass fishing just before sunset. i was fishing soft plastics attempting to imitate the small shad that the fish were keying on. if all else fails, find out what the baitfish is that all the predators are eating and match the hatch. you'll catch something...

there is no reason to use a two hook rig

I have best luck with it. But I'd only recommend it If you plan on keeping the catfish to eat. If your doing catch and release, single hook would be best. But two hooks just about promises you a strong set.

This guy is 100% correct.

Down here we have a bunch of people who tube the river. It is not uncommon during the summer for me to be catching big fish right underneath their radio ice chests where nobody else would throw a hook.

people who post all these crazy things about catfishing can just be plain silly. The best rig is a sliding sinker carolina rig and a fresh cut bait. it will outproduce these 1000 times over.

X10000!!!!
Even better if you can get by without the weight!

Google "Texas rig fishing." For cats all you do is use swivel with a leader or some way to get a little bit of distance between the hook and weight. When they start playing with it, the line slides through the weight with almost no resistance and can keep swimming with it until you run out of line.

That's the exact rig I use, however if there isn't much wind or current I don't use any weight. Just tie a 3/0-6/0 circle hook directly to the line and hook it through a bluegill or perch head.

I also use texas rig, my favorite bait to use for catfish is shrimp. I peel it and stick the hook through the tail area and follow the groove and leave the hook unexposed near the head. They stock some of the manmade ponds in town with farm raised channel cats during the summer, but i prefer fishing at lake mead. Hate fishing in crowded areas and getting the lines tangled.

Larry the Cable guy once said something like, "why would you use a $10 fish to catch a $2 fish? It just don't make sense."
They do like their crustaceans though.

It was "why would I use bait that is $10.99 a lb to catch a fish that is $2.99 a lb"
