The OP was talking about goldfish X carp, not koi X carp. Goldfish are Carrassius auratus, koi and common carp are Cyprinus carpio.

I must say I agree with FlaringShutter. Why go to all the effort to produce a fish which will quite likely have health problems, and will in no way be superior to either parent fish?

I just don't understand the fascination with hybrids.
well i can say that several thousand people are fascinated with hybrids. thats like saying i dont understand the fascination with tv or video games or whatever YOU like

I don't understand the fascination with TV or video games either. But they're really not comparable to hybridizing fish.

People in the fish-keeping hobby ought to be people concerned with the well-being of their captive animals. As such those of us interested in hybridization really should be concerned with the possible effects of hybridization and educate ourselves about the pros and cons before jumping in and trying to cross fish just because we can.

Hybridization is a serious undertaking with great potential consequences for the well-being of animals. It should not be engaged in frivolously. That's all I'm saying.
