Carpintis growth rate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
?Yea just trying to make sure his tank water is nice and clean. I don’t mind it though. Most of the times if I wait three days it’s really about a 36/37 ish percent (four 5 gallon buckets). If I do a water change on the second day it’s about 27 percent( three 5 gallon buckets)

Does anyone think that they can identify what “type”of Carpintis he might might be. Escondido or Rio Hondo for example. From what I’ve seen on the internet I think my fish most resembles a Rio Hondo but I know that the hobby has done a number on these fish and most are just kind of a general Carpintis. Any thoughts?

Here’s another one month update on Bruce the Carpintis. I think he’s currently going through a bit of a growth spurt. I want to say he’s at the 5 inch mark now or maybe even a little past that. The grey rock is a little over 6 inches wide for reference. His nuchal hump also seems to be growing. He’s more personable every day. I’m soooo close to getting him to hand feed but he just won’t commit to it. His new favorite thing is attacking and flaring at the siphon now. I’d love for someone to give me some feedback on my last post above this one.

Hand feeding fish is really fun! The way I do it is that I use my parrot cichlid as a "model" for the other fish. Being a parrot cichlid, he always comes at my hand for food which shows the other fish that my hand isn't "dangerous." That's how I have all these great clips of me hand feeding my fish.

So the parrot shows the others. That’s pretty cool. I don’t think he would like other fish in his tank though. I already had to remove a Raphael catfish that he turned on. I’m trying with mealworms and he gets within less than an inch of me but just won’t commit. He has no problem with my hand being near him whenever I’m doing things in the tank. I think I might try earthworms there a little longer so maybe he will commit with that.

Great news! Today was the first time he ate a mealworm from my hand!?

Think this vid shows some the ”wet pet” like traits of my Carpintis. Sorry about the shakey camera too, not too easy to walk on your knees?. I can walk back and forth to each side of the tank 100 times and he’ll come right up to my face every time. He doesn’t do it for food either, believe me when he wants food he bites at the glass lol.

Carpintis were always slow growers for me. But they do look nice.
Yea, seems a lot of people have that same experience. Loads of personality though which I really enjoy. If you don't mind me asking what kind of fish is in your profile pic? Is it some kind of Texas or carpintis hybrid? Very cool looking.
