Catching juvenile bowfin?

I have been pondering it for a while now, and I'm confident I want to keep a bowfin and LNG. anybody know good ways to catch 5-8 inch bowfin at this time of year? It will be in a 60 gallon until may when I get a 300 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank for it. I'm gunna wait till summer to try and get the gar. I've been reading a lot of Ray Wolff's research. Thanks!

Oh and I will be trying to get them from Crabtree creek, Raleigh , NC. I think I'll go Thursday-Sunday.

Try fishing in shallows, really its just a waiting game until you get lucky and get the right fish.

Try netting the weeds along the bank at this time of year u may get some small ones. Also snookin21 has 2" for sale

I catch bowfin all the time with cut sunfish, but i need to catch small ones. PS. That bowfin is a hoss. Nice catch.

The problem is that there is little to no vegetation I know of here. It's a rocky bottomed river with an old dam and an undercut bank. A little ways down it gets slow moving and muddy but still no vegetation.
