if its a big difference this is prolly ur best bet..
do u have a spare heater??? u could always tank ur heater out of ur main tank itll b fine for a while....
then put ur featherfin ina decent sized bucket with a good amount of ur 10 gal tank
water, keep the water aeriated some how mayb an airstone, hes gunna use up that oxygen fast..
then add some fresh water make sure its the 10 gals temp, add enuff to submerge the heater an then slowly bring the temp to match ur 55....
then add him to ur tank u prolly dont wanna mix the goldfish water with ur 55 gal bad idea...thats the best way i can think of to not stress and shock him into dieing by the switch...
also catch him with a cup not a net hell tear it apart and u might break some of his spines if u u se a net..
and make sure u catch him with a cup

Just asking couse you said you were a noob, no shame in that, glad you wanna learn!) When you move him, put him into a 1 gallon glass jar with water, and float it in the 55 for about a half hour or so, and then release him.
Good luck! Provide lots of rockwork for your africans and synodontis cat, and plenty of filtration and water changes.
