Vulture cats should be avoided as they have a teeth arrangement that allows them to snatch lumps out of other fish.
How about any from this list-
lima shovel nose (go multiple).
Almost any of the synodontis.
Pim ornatus/blochi.
chrisichthys ornatus.
sturio shovel nose.
hemisorubim platyrhinchos.
When considering size take into account barbel length.
It would be a good idea to decide what you want in terms of decor as you will need plenty of hiding places and they will need to be constructed solidly eg construct stone caves using silicone or wood arrangements secured with cable ties or plastic screws.
You should be able to accomodate a few cats especially if you have stuff like limas in there as they dont sit on the bottom.

What i'd like to do for setup is a 3D back rock wall and would like some nice large driftwood pieces and rocks making plenty of hiding places and caves and some fake plants for looks.

I'm not a big fan of the lima shovelnose...not saying they aren't nice cats just not really what i'm looking for. The chrisichthys ornatus on the other had I would love to have...that is if I can find one...been searching online and man they are hard little guys to find! I do love the Vulture cats though and have heard they are pretty peaceful from what people have told me...I'll have to research them a little more but I do like how active they are.

I have my vulture cat with plenty of other fish with no problems. They are perfectly fine as long as they aren't a lot bigger than the fish. Just don't keep them with rays

Thats what i've been seeing when other people talk about them...Now assuming I got two Vulture Cats, in your experience with them, would they be an issue with sun cats or chrisichthys ornatus? I know they larger than both of those but I'm thinking with enough hiding places they might not bother each other.

I have a sun cat myself, I wouldn't call him shy but I wouldn't call him social either. Hes really funny though. He swims to the top and eats a few pellets when I feed my Oscars, some times of the week he will "school" with my Oscar, quite interesting lol reminds me of the little sucker fish that you find on sharks

Haha...that would be cool to see him schooling with the oscar!

Yeah, my 2 oscars ignore him. But he very comfortable in my tank and isn't scared. Very strong fish too! I took him out when I was moving my tank with my hand so the net wouldn't get tangled on him, very good fight in them! Mines about 7 inches now after 1yr and 2 months growing from 2 inches

Definitely would like a couple of them...very cool looking cats and remind me of the channel cats I catch here fishing...without getting 4' long at least! haha

Sturio shovelnose are way too skittish and fragile to be kept with fish like that

Thanks for the tip...don't think that one would be one i'd get anyway but good to know anyway!

Ok so here is kind of what i'm looking at and assuming the vulture cats are peaceful towards tankmates (which is what most people have seen)...let me know if you see any issues:

-3 Oscars
-2 Vulture Cats
-3 sun cats
-Possibly 2 Jaguar cats (I know i'll probably never see them but have always liked them.)
-and 2 chrisichthys ornatus if I can find them but they seem very rare.

Do you think there would be any issues with this in a 120x48x30? Too much bottom action? Otherwise I could stick with 2 Vultures and 2-3 sun cats with the oscars if that would be better.

Thanks!

That should work but the vulture cats may or may not take chunks out of the other fish but someone correct me if I'm wrong

Thanks...I figure I'll take a chance on the vultures since from what I've researched it doesn't seem like anyone has problems with them.
