No, the snakehead problem isn’t funny. Taking one fish that has a horrid survival rate out of the wild and introducing a fish that crashes the ecosystem are hardly in the same realm of action. He didn’t do it knowingly as he didn’t even know what it was. The fact you make it a point to say you your self pull fish from the wild then condemn other people that break laws is even worse. Its then ok by your thinking to break laws but only the ones that you your self break? If your suggesting that it is one of the most asinine things I’ve ever heard with out a doubt. As far as a nice way of saying someone is breaking the law? Sure, Derpeder just so you know that was an illegal activity as the fish is endangered and you could get into trouble if there happens to be a DNR officer walking around your back yard when you pull that fish out. More over that fish could have been the one to save the species. Done. It is also clear you don’t care that you try to belittle people in these forums. No your right I don’t pay close attention to what you say, although I have noticed you complain an awful lot and much more then most. No you haven’t asked me to change. You would be wasting your time doing so. I was simply pointing out you have no problem asking others to do so. Nor am I giving advice or being a “Nice Guy”, I am just stating the obvious that MFK’s reputation of being full of fish snobs and *ss holes as other sites put it is rightfully deserved thanks to members like your self. You don’t have to be a nice guy to be considerate of others. With that I’m done with this high school level argument don’t bother responding I won’t be reading it.

First off...No reason to run away from this thread. I'm sorry I can't bring the level of discussion up to your obviously greater than high school level.

I've never condemned anyone for taking fish legally. I really think you (Skyy) stuck your nose in this thread to troll me personally but I'll keep at this one in any case. You still don't know what my complaint is do you even though I was clear in my very first post in this thread?

Each state has different laws regarding the taking (capture) and holding of native fishes. It's the responsibility of the participants of such forums to read the laws of their state and comply with the regulations. It may not be all that easy to understand the laws but once you do, following them is rather easy. I encourage all forum members to read up on the law and even contact the proper responsible authorities with specific questions regarding questions you may have AFTER you've read all applicable laws.

Now I've read up my state law and surrounding state laws and I take fish legally and more importantly I take responsible numbers. I use legal methods and follow transport laws and make great efforts to keep the fishes healthy during transport.

As far as my complaints around here......I guess theres a lot of illegal behavior here plain and simple. I never belittle people and usually people send rather nasty little remarks once their behavior has been called into light.

Look at your remark..."The fact you make it a point to say you your self pull fish from the wild then condemn other people that break laws is even worse. Its then ok by your thinking to break laws but only the ones that you your self break?"

This remark is designed to put me on the defensive by telling others that I not only break the law (which I don't) but you also call me a hypocrite.

This is often whats wrong here.

Well... the damage is done and I don't really like where the thread is heading right now so I will just say this:

Anytime you deal with animals in the wild, always bring a field guide and read up on the local laws -- be it a flower, a weed, fish, a herptile, a bird, a insect or mammal. It is better to support the conservation effort of your state or province than it is to risk getting caught without knowing the lay of the law. You can even get in trouble for picking up an endangered flower.

Actually I'm pretty quick with my "rants" as you like to call them. I'm not so sure he gets it. He seems to rationalize his behavior even after being called on it.

Tact has been tried here dozens of times on this subject. I didn't call names, I merely pointed out the law. That simply isn't tactless.

Someone has to tell the emperor "he has no clothes".

I'm not trying to teach anyone. They should learn from books not me or the internet. I can only hope to point out the obvious from time to time and if I'm labeled as jerk.....I can live with that label.
Why dont yall just chill out.

Cool :)

The problem however with all three of these is they all three either are or could be listed protected wildlife...That's not cool...It is also a good way to get yourself in deep poop if you are not careful. Ignorance of the laws or lack of species ID skills will not be an accepted excuse should you get caught by a Conservation officer with a listed species..It ain't good for the Native hobby either to collect things and ask questions later..

Regardless you now have a freaky eel thing that will need some care..How is it doing???

Fishes of Washington will certainly be a good resource for you but costs a few bucks. I'm not sure Amazon has the best price but here is a link in any case.

I'll bet a local library will be able to get a copy of this for you as well.

Peterson's field guide to freshwater fishes of North America is a low cost must have book for everyone interested in field ID.

I have a soft standard camera case and I use a "lock and lock" water tight food storage container to protect my camera in the water. It cost me less than three dollars at target.

Guys.....see this information and delivery is what I'm taking about. :D Much easier to take what is said when it is presented tactfully. I do very much appreciate your knowledge and help....just not how you come down on folks that aren't as educated and need a little information thrown there way. :) :)

Poly....I know the frog was not endangered I did ID that little guy. the other two you are right about. I don't know so I'll be more careful.....the freeky eel thing is still doing great. Haven't been able to get a pic of what you need....doesn't stick onto the glass that long.

I didn't even bother to read through the snakehead stuff and anything that got discussed cause I've learned what I needed to learn.

If you all are still hashing it out good luck.

BY THE WAY.......Anyone actually have an ID on these trout. I really would like to know what they are. They are beautiful little guys. :D

Have to say I suck at Salmonid smolts but I think you may have had a salmon there and not a Trout. Given local variants, Hybridization and unwelcome stocking it is really hard to say for sure. To me that looks rather good for a Chinook salmon but I'm not fully sure and have not myself done any side research to find out if this may be the case. I would suggest looking to see if they spawn or are stocked in your area...

Very young salmon and trout can be very difficult to identify without lots of experience. Again a book will be your best resource.

Thanks....I think I'm going to call the county and see if they know what salmon or trout run though that stream. They should have some knowledge of it.

If I find anything out I'll let you guys know.

Actually Canadian law is the most restrictive in the North American continent.
