This is a good illustration, in my opinion, of why it might be wise to not create hybrids. If an unsuspecting individual gets a cb hybrid that looks like it is not a hybrid and puts it in a breeding program the genetics get all screwed up for those who are trying to keep the species seperate. I think these animals are incredible enough without trying to create our own varieties.

Just my opinion...

I agree very much. But they are still very neat looking. So we are saying that there genes are co-dominant or dominant??? Or not that at all?

nature will do what it wants. In the wild a pearl can tag a leo so why not in captivity. i dont get the argument exactly. Let nature and the rays do as they want. So Asian people should not be aloud to have an italian wife? Isnt it the same thing?

No, human beings are all the same species. It's saying it might not be wise to mate with a chimpanze. Some of the Brazilian species come from limited ranges. I don't know enough about where all these species are found to know if pearls and leos see each other in their natural environment. If they do share the same habitat and range there has to be something discouraging them from interbreeding in the wild (or creating fertile offspring) or they would not be seperate species.

mike I'm so dissapointed in you making those beautifull hybrid pups.... I mean come on how dare you destroy the gene pool with those beautifull pups....

this thread is getting crazy... these rays are just crazy!! I wish I could have one. I dont understand why people are picking at it. I'm sure this happens in the wild.

 I mean seriously if a person buys them they are clearly sold as Leo Pearl hybrids.... I don't think you can mistake that name.... and nobody is gonna resell it as a l reg leo they are gonna sell it as a leo pearl especially when bigger cause it will be worth more :screwy:

They never see eachother because they come from different river systems.

But Amazon, most of the breeders who get these hybrids didn't really try and create them on purpose, the rays just did it. So can we conclude that pearls are a bunch of horny buggers, and are simply irresistible to other rays:D.

sounds like a good answer to me alex.... I'm still dissapointed in mike for creating those beautifull pups though

IMO alot is just theorys but her advising it's not wise to create hybrids I believe is because the theory is when you have a hybrid litter and not all look like hybrids the non looking hybrid-hybrid could(and I'm guessing she thinks will) carry genes from other species and it could be passed off a full blooded animal(non-hybrid) somewhere down it's life cycle, enter into someones pure breeding program and alter pure genetics down the line.

So see her concern doesn't have much to do with the hybrid pups that are a mix and you can tell visually but with the hybrid pups that look normal and could carry genes from two different rays.
