From what I have read, it seems like if you go with Festae, get a pair. This way the female will show off the really bright red coloration (more so than if she is by herself).

You might get a few of the fry, pair them off as they grow, and sell some along the way (you'll make a few bucks this way, and ensure that you end up with the nicest pair out of the batch).
This :iagree:

I dont think 108g is big enough for a festae pair honestly..... if you want a single fish. very personable, showy, always at the front of the tank for people to see..... than get a Trimac.. Awesome color, big enough to fill the tank but not too big and very active.

How big do male festaes get? If i got the fry at 1" and kept one pair, would they be okay being tank-bred and growing up in a tank? It makes me wonder since jaguars get really big in the wild. P. friedrichsthalli, and V. synspillus are really cool too, P. friedrichsthalli looks like a yellow jaguar from what i've seen on google. I suppose a pair like convicts for example aren't bad for cichlids, so it wont really be more work.

a male festae could get over 14" and much larger than the female really. with such a limited amount of space you could end up with a dead female if the male doesnt play nice.

Check out Jeff's site Tangled Up in Cichlids. Pick a fish that looks good to you (he has a gallery), check the price, look up some info, and wallahh!!!

My best guess is either, an oscar (maybe something else?), jaguar or festae pair. :( turns out i read the add wrong there are 20 fry for $20 each, i thought it was for all of them. How much are they normally, since i will probably have to get them ordered in.

carpintis are nice, is there a cool bottom dweller and schooling fish to put with any of these besides plecos and silver dollars? would a carpinits being only 8" do okay with an albino oscar and female red terror. The red terror is around the same rage of size i think and the oscar would be a gentle giant. I will have someone test nitrates for me and will be running an fx5 canister, so i can do waterchanges and filter cleaning/media replacement.
