speaking of rainbow sharks that's what I use in all my cichlids setups they aren't agressive besides to other rainbows mine even eat the he'll out of algae ime all my cichlids don't mess with the non agressive non cichlid tankmates where as most the time these fish bow down to them and rainbows look pretty cool too

Thanks for the input fellas... I think Reiner and Calicichlid are right on. I've had those Syn. cats and believe they start sucking on your fish once they get larger. Now.... where can I locate some of these Raphael cats? Any LFS so I don't get grilled on shipping again?

Sounds like you've already made up your mind, but for the record, I've got two S. eupterus and they don't suck on my fishes. Both are close to 8". I'm getting two more they work so well.

I have an s.eupterus that I wanted to get out of my gf's community tank because its starting to get vicious. I was floating the bag and my oscar bit the bag fairly aggressively. Do I just put him in and hope I don't have to do delicate removal of spines from my oscar or will he get a closer sniff and think, 'no thats not tasty'.
honestly, although a bit off topic, eupterus will probably be a nuisance to your oscars. Eupterus are bastards, I have two of the original 3 that I got some 6 years ago and have kept them with many many agressive cichlids, most recently with my departed jardini, an adult male fredy, and just threw them back with my pair of festae that don't get along. I think I'm going to get some giant danios to cover the top of the tank and hopefully take down the divder and see what happens.

I'm honestly surprised at posts like these. The only "problem" I've ever had with my synodontis was eating eggs at night. The parents quickly figured out how to put a stop to this. I don't know what the parents did, but the synos don't do it anymore. But really, I've got a bunch of big and little Americans (including 3 giant Oscars) and 2 giant, fat synos and they don't bother each other in the least.

I'm just honestly surprised about the folks saying the synodontis will harass other fishes. I've recommended them to a few folks for their janitorial skills and they've all been more than happy with the results. Like I said, they work so well, I'm getting two more for a total of four.

No offense, I'm not calling anybody a liar or anything. I've just had vastly different experiences.;)

What purpose are you hoping the fish serves? Many of the so-called scaveners mentioned don't really scavenge at all. Very few actually eat algae. Is your goal just to add some cool fish or really have something of a cleanup crew?

I've been setting up my Central American tanks and need a recommendation for a scavenger(s) that can with stand the aggression of these cichlids. One of my tanks will have Clown and Yo-yo Loaches since the cichlids are still fairly small...... but my larger CA's will need something.... any recommendations?

Rafeal cats :)

To pickup after the other CA's.... food bits an what not. These fish do get messy sometimes when they eat.

Terd... no offense bud. I forgot to mention that I have had Syn. cats before... after seeing the pics/link you posted. They use to harrass my Frontosas when they hit about the 5" mark.... so I'd take them in to the LFS and drop them off..... but Frontosas are little whimps anyway. I'll give them a shot since they're readily available and affordable.

how about a prochilodus? Thats all mine eats, leftovers.

Might not be able to withstand aggression from Motas, Trimac, Viejas....
