Ok, so i have a 6x2x2 on order that will hopefully be here pretty soon ! I have been thinking about a single Dovii, but after a bit of consideration i'm wondering if i should go with something else.

I really like Texas and am considering having as much of a community as possible. I know they can be aggressive, but what could i get away with keeping with one in a tank of this size ?

Any ideas would be appreciated, if anyone has Texas that they keep with other large cichlids, and/or in a community.

Cheers.

I have 2 texas, 1 firemouth, 1 jd, & 2 blood parrots and they're fine, but all fish are different so...I would just buy them as juvies and raise them all together

+1 on starting from juvies.get a group of maybe 10 different small cichlids you like, grow them out to see what gets along, and who you like.i have never had a tank that size but you could possibly start with more juvies.i did have a texas(cyano)male which got along well with the female jag.so well that they mated.texas seem to get rough as they get older

What about a group of Grammodes?

I had green terror with oscars and with convicts, oscar with bichirs, texas with siver dollars, and u have a 6x2x2 thats 180 gal. U can have about whatever u want in there. Single dovii sounds like an aweful waste of space IMO.

Yeh i think i need to have a search to see what everyone else has managed to keep in the same size tank. I know what you mean about alot of space for one fish, but there isn't anything that i can keep with a male Dovii in that size tank, and everytime i see pictures and videos of members Dovii, it just makes me want one even more. So if you could all stop for a while

I'ts going to take a while to get the tank ready and cycled anyway, so i've got time to change my mind a few times.

Never really seen any Grammodes that make me want one.

Well, not exactly a texas, but I do have a vontehillo in with a lyonsi pair and an oscar (125 gallon tank). Perfect harmony among this crew, and all fish are medium to large. Even have two bumble bee cats to boot. I don't know if I ever see anything close to sparring, aside from the occassional business with the lyonsi pair. Took me a while to find a grouping I could do with CA cichlids, that didn't result in a bunch of wounded fish all the friggin' time! LOL... leaving this group together now, for the forseeable future!

Good luck with your choice.
