Change of plans .... Maybe ?

I know what you mean about alot of space for one fish, but there isn't anything that i can keep with a male Dovii in that size tank, and everytime i see pictures and videos of members Dovii, it just makes me want one even more.

So it's going to be a male? 6x2x2 is not a lot of space for it, but you may want to ask Balton777 or JK about their personal experience.

Edit - check this thread http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?271513-I-think-I-m-going-to-sell-my-Dovii-

A 180g (6x2x2) isnt good for a dovii longer than about the first 12-18 months of its life. Skip the dovii and establish a long term goal. Youll be much happier.

I had one in a 265g with a mate then by himself and it was too small. They are open water predators and probably half the reason for their captive aggression is not being able to swim for longer than 6 or 7 ft at a time in spurts.

Cheers, interesting read, and something to think about !

I think i have decided to scrap the Dovii idea............... At least until i can get a bigger tank

Now i have to somehow make a "community" out of this lot,

Texas
Red Devil
Flowerhorn
Trimac
Green Terror
Jack Dempsey
Salvini
Oscar
Convicts
My LFS has some Jack Dempsey/Convict hybrids.

I know that this lot will not all go together in this tank, they are just a selection of what i am considering. So if anyone has any experience with keeping any of the above in communities, please let me know :nilly:

Opinions will certainly vary on this one. Some will tell you if you start them as juvies, you have a chance. And I guess I would have to say anything's possible. But my two cents is to take the Red Devil, Flowerhorn and Trimac from that list at the least. I think you could substitute a Midas for the Red Devil, if you want a fish of that look. Midas have better temperaments, imo. But those are the three fish that strike me off the top as being potential problems. If the convicts start breeding, they could be more trouble than you bargained for as well. Little fish, big bite! LOL... That said, I do think you'll be fine with the convicts... especially in a tank of that size.

why dont you get 6 young dovii and them grow on and hope you get a pair, they will grow quick in your 6x2x2 ?

You're in for a lot of fights when mixing the fish at the top of your list. And if you start mixing the top half of the list with the bottom half you're going to have some fatalities.
What is your goal for the tank? Lots of color and different types? You could go with an assortment of Oscar varieties with convicts for dithers.

That is if you can truly find a Midas and not a MiDevil. I agree that a breeding pair of convicts can cause trouble, but hopefully as long as the tank isn't too overcrowded they'd be able to set up a territory and be fine.
