Change of plans .... Maybe ?

That is if you can truly find a Midas and not a MiDevil. I agree that a breeding pair of convicts can cause trouble, but hopefully as long as the tank isn't too overcrowded they'd be able to set up a territory and be fine.
I agree. If he gets his Midas from Ira or Rapps, he can be 100% positive they are pure. And I believe both have them in stock.

Cheers for the replies !

I am not thinking i can get away with having one of each lol. Maybe a Texas and a Red devil, a jack dempsey and a pair (Maybe) of convicts. I know that i will not be able to have them all, the list is just some of my favourites, and i will hopefully pick and choose what will work from it.

I would love Dovii, but it has been suggested on this thread with some links to problems other people are having that this size tank will not be suitable. :(

Should add, i am in the UK. So buying from Rapps or ira will not be easy

Yeh convicts are certainly the rabbits of the fish world, and it doesn't even have to be with other convicts so unless you want a ton of hybrid fry i'd keep a close eye on any pairs that form.

I'd hate to see Rapp's shipping bill tot he UK.
If you like dovii i still think you might want to look into grammodes. Same body type, just smaller. I know it's a compromise, but I'm sure there are people on here that have some really good looking grammodes pics they could share with you.

I know this is not the right section, but i have asked in the African section and got no response.

Has anyone kept a pair of Buttikofferi in this size tank ? Or a single Butti with something like Midas, red devil, flowerhorn...etc.. ? Successfully ?

I think i have decided to scrap the Dovii idea............... At least until i can get a bigger tank

Now i have to somehow make a "community" out of this lot,

Texas
Red Devil
Flowerhorn
Trimac
Green Terror
Jack Dempsey
Salvini
Oscar
Convicts
My LFS has some Jack Dempsey/Convict hybrids.

I know that this lot will not all go together in this tank, they are just a selection of what i am considering. So if anyone has any experience with keeping any of the above in communities, please let me know :nilly:

from what i read, flowerhorns don't end up behaving well in community tanks.same for trimacs and red devils seem to be mixed on how they behave in community.from your list i would try:only 1 convict, jack, salvini, texas, and maybe get an oscar bigger than the others so he could hopefully rule the tank, and also not get bullied.that would be 5 cichlids then get some schoolers, maybe a catfish
