Looking good man. His red is really coming out. Gonna be an awesome fish. Any pics of him when you first got him?

Dylon did the same color changing. I thought it was from having a female but it was from him seeing another male. Once I took the male out his colors cMe all the way back.

Its true seeing another male will help the kok growth but I wish we knew to what degree and if there was a limit.

Im wondering if I should go with a lighter background and light sand. What do you think?

I would go black sand and have a blue background or keep black background and have lighter sand. Light background and substrate will likely wash his colors out.
 
Would you just keep my black sand and black background like it is now?
No I would not it’s interesting his colors became much lighter and vibrant after you gave him mirror time despite the dark background and substrate but just because of that his color should soon go back to as dark as it was before.
