if you have the money to burn and an effort to replace the activated carbon regularly then why not,but still its a case to case basis...before i just used the ordinary charcoals that has no chemicals in it,because there are some charcoals that has chemicals that is used to make the coals burn faster-JASON

Wait you use Bar-B-Q charcoal?

Some types of chemical filtration do breakdown eventually after reaching saturation point, activated carbon is one, but it takes a long time before this occurs. As for removing discoloration, it depends on the media and the cause of the stain, tannin is absorbed and neutralized by baked lime, carbon tends to remove the reddish brown caused by high iron levels, etc.

so does discolored water mean..colored water? like green or red water..

Amber, reddish, greenish, tea colored, even grey, depending on the cause. Also discoloered water is not nessesarily cloudy, black water swamps have clear water the color of strong tea.

wait now i'm lost again..
"clear water the color of strong tea"..isn't clear water non-colored..? but then you say color of strong tea..
