WRONG my RCS breed at 7.8 PH

Your reading comprehension skills are lacking. Had you read the post I said "likely" not will or guaranteed. It was a suggestion based on the general basics of aquatic care. Now if you'd like to go on the WRONG train then please post a useful suggestion.

I am going to side with Rivermud on this one. Not that my opinion counts for much. I am surprised your water is so hard considering the driftwood and plants in your tank. Perhaps you should throw in a couple of more smaller pieces with some more plants. This would not only increase the softness but increase the hiding spots that would alleviate some potential stress they may be feeling.

I would double check everything. It was just today that I found one of my 5 gallon tanks had its heater unplugged, I found this was a big reason why my fish was so stressed =/

Is there a filter (a fine sponge of some sort) over the intake into your HOB filter? My ottos used to get sucked into my ac50 in my 20 gallon, this definitely stressed the hell out of em until I added a filter for them and my RCS.

Do you have substrate? If so, what kind? I am not sure if shrimp, like certain fish, prefer the presence of substrate.

I would list off several other things that I'd check but they are all basic that you probably have done: photo period (making sure the inverts can sleep at night), background, position of tank, foot traffic, I might also ask other people in the household if they are doing anything with the tank (Hey, ya never know!), and... things like that.

Good luck, and let me know what the problem ends up being :)

Oh, and maybe you need to introduce some genetic variation!

2 more clutches of eggs lost. Last night I actually noticed one of the shrimp in the process of transfering the eggs to the tail. The tail was bent down and I see the eggs in the middle but wasnt quite sure if they were attached yet. Later the shrimp moved and I saw the eggs on the tail, I thought GREAT. Well, this morning the eggs have fallen off the tail and I noticed ANOTHER group of eggs on some moss.

This is getting crazy. I dont know whats the problem.

The substrate is white sand. I have an aqueon 10 filter with the intake covered with a sponge. I added some floating plants recently too which they like already. No one else does anything to my tank, thats positive. They get about 10 hours of light a day, not alot of foot traffic, only me going back and forth a few times a day. I dont know what could be the problem. Ive heard from others the PH and hardness are fine.

But would it kill you to try and lower the pH and hardness to see if it helps? I don't understand the unwillingness to try something that may or may not fix the problem you're having.

No, Im willing to try it. But dont know how I should do it. Its weird cause the shrimp are healthy, very active, theres quite a bit of them that are pretty large too and really red. Its just, somethings amiss, they cant seem to successfully breed.

I jsut noticed theres a shrimp with eggs on its tail right now. I also noticed the other day a baby shrimp, I thought, "where did he come from?" Im thinking it came from one of the shrimp eggs, maybe when eggs fell, an egg or 2 was still hanging possibly.
