I'm a GM guy to the bone, if any of the 3 go under, I think it's their own fault, these crisis didn't happen overnight. The japanese are even building better trucks! Shame on us!! I just hope I'll get my new Camaro befor the end.

Aren't the Camaros being built in Canada?

I tend to agree let a sinking ship sink but also ask the Question. if a union that represents these workers refuses to budge then what good did their representation do? you can have a Job and a 10% pay cut or you can be unemployed. oh right someone here mentioned it. if they are unemployed they will make nearly the same as they are now when factoring in the cost of travel to and from work. whats the downside for them? well think of this if 2 million people are unemployed then there are roughly 1Million homes that will be suddenly up for sale shortly after. Crime will increase and the Pensions of all those presently collecting them from the Big 3 will be gone as well. yes alot of those Jobs will be recreated in short order but at what cost. The U.S. Economy is suffering and everyone needs to do their part. When it costs 3X the employees wage to have them their there is a problem. yes it has been poorly managed but you gotta keep up with the Jones's if ford has this Benefit then the GM workers want it but a little better. then Dodge wants it but a little better. then ford has fallen behind and needs to set the new Benchmark. it gets out of hand and now we are seeing the Market correction. lets see the unions stand against a company that doesn't exist anymore.

You know, I've wondered this, too, because GM owes Canada A LOT of money for backing out of their agreement/contract on building Camaros mid-term. This was back when they cut them off in '02. Canada was very upset, and I never actually heard how that ended.

edit: Greengiant, you beat me to the post. Since you're from Canada...what ever happened with that?

Brutal for who? The auto workers? They have been massively overpaid for years. Let the sinking ship sink

What an ignorant perspective... Try working on an assembly line for a week and see if you feel overpaid! :irked:

I don't know whats happened with the Camaro Issue. must have been settled in some way as they are supposed to be built in Canada again. I am out west so alot of what happens with the auto unions and the manufacturing sector has grated on me. When a country bails out a failing company time and time again I get annoyed. we have our examles here such as Air Canada and Bombardier. Bombardier built some great products but spent billions from a profitable sector to finance a failing one. because they had a profitable area the Gov bailed them out. finally they said the company had to separate. BRP is a great company and since being "seperate" from the main company has suceeded. interestingly so has the main company. explain that one. I have watched whats happening in the states and realized how the government in Canada has done alot to protect against what has happened down south. we are still greatly effected but more because world investors are short on cash and not investing. also people watch the news to much and take a report from one area and think its the same everywhere.

Again.....not overpaid directly to your (I'm assuming) pocket. It's all the extra payments that have to be made. Union dues being at the top of that list, and the reason for that comment and the discussion. Besides, don't think you're the only hardworking person because you can say "I work on an assembly line". I guarantee you many of us others work just as hard as you do...and have a third to half the cost of employment ;)

I have heard but never witnessed the creation of "labour pools" created from pressure by unions to keep people on staff when times didn't require the extra work force. the problem being the companys used these a a place to put the workers they couldn't fire or lay off. rather than bring those people back when the labour was needed they hired new people. this over time created thousands of people who "worked for GM/Ford/Chrysler" but actually did nothing. I may be wrong but its what I heard if I am wrong set me right
