They deserve to go out of business...

The UAW also deserve to be broken up after refusing to take a 10% pay cut to help the situation.

Bottom line is why should we bail them out? They make crap product and are not keeping up with technology. They created their own problem and should have to live with their mistakes.

#1 They did not completely create this problem the bad economy had a big part in this....Not many can afford to buy new cars...
#2 It is not a "bailout" it is a loan...It is a loan coming from the Wallstreet Bailout...They have receiced loans before and paid them back...
#3 Their are millions right now living with this so called mistake and it sucks...
#4 They do not make crap product that is a misconception...
#5 You don't realize How much tax these companys generate for the States and Federal government...

You need to look at the big picture.

Though I do have some agreements with you, it sounds like you are speaking with a biased opinion. It IS a bailout. It seems easy to just blame it on the banks and the economy. These companies have made poor decisions, pay too high wages from the union grunts to the suited with their personal helicopters (Bob Lutz for example). They are greedy, period. Wagonner gets a pay increase to $15,000,000 ($1.5m base) THIS YEAR, because they didn't have as large of losses as they expected? WTF?! How is that raise worthy? They DO make crap products, this is not a misconception. I work on cars everyday, and I'm telling you now, US domestics don't hold a candle in quality. From interior pieces falling off...... to engines going crap with xxx amount of miles (and piss poor mileage)- especially when compared to x foreign car with same amount of miles (lets say Toyota, since I went from domestics to a 97,xxx mile 4Runner, and couldn't have made a better decision, it runs better than some of them did with half the mileage). Hell, as much as I like Vettes, they were all pieces of s*** until the C6. I understand a lot of people are having to live with this, and yes it does suck. But they (big 3) have dug what would have been their own grave (and eventually probably still will be), yet they continue to make gross amounts of money. But, if these other companies can get billions, then go on these thousands of dollar spa trips with that very money, then get more.....why can't everyone else. Bottom line....no matter how you look at it......we as your everyday workers are getting screwed by large companies and lenders that have spent money and made terrible decisions that could benefit no one but themselves and their own pockets.

I just read something about a possible merge. :(
no merge, and we shouldnt have taxpayers bail them out either .it cost them 80 dollars a man hour to pay for one employee because of all the benifits they get and how much pay they receive. they should make a regular wage like every other struggleing person here. so why should our taxes go to them they dont help me!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're right. It is a big picture issue. All the autoworkers comtribute to the economy in a big way. I'd rather they were contributing than being on the dole.

Alas, most of thier jobs will eventually be taken up by Mexicans in Mexico. The union has simply helped the management make that decision some time ago. With wages in Mexico between $1.50~3.00 an hour, compared to $30 in the USA, it doesn't take a math major to do the math for the companies.

As to blaming the banks, that's nonsense. No one forces high-risk borrowers to borrow money. Why take out a loan if you can't pay it off?

All the U.S. has done is ruined itself.
that money seems big, but it will barely take GM and Chrysler to 2009.
They will ask for more.
And it will be given to them.
IF YOU WANT MONEY, DON'T MAKE AUFUL CARS!!!

While it sucks to have to bail them out. I'd rather bail out them then the banks. At least they can produce something. I feel better paying blue collar paychecks then the banks white collar's. And we don't have very man manufacturing jobs left in the U.S. I don't think at this point in the game it's an option to let them crumble. They've grown too large and too much of the U.S. is affected by them in a economy that is already horrible. It wouldn't just affect the workers in the plants, but the thousands of workers that make parts outside of the plants, and the thousands that work at auto dealerships.

I don't think it's a bad idea to have someone in goverment in control or keeping tabs on where they're going either.

It's very hard and nearly impossible to blame this mess on one issue/person/etc. It's a cluster of issues that are wrong.

As of this morning I hear housing developers are wanting a bailout now too.
