I say let the CEO's hang. They led the companies into this mess, yet they are still getting their money and HUGE checks at the end of the year.
All these payments the two big ones can't make are on loans granted during the a Democratic President.... so there is no need to start pointing political fingers in this mess. The President really doesn't have much to do with this. It's all poor planning/spending by both the heads of the companies and the banks.

The CEO's should hang for signing such a ridiculous contract with the union.

i think the general public understands how important the domestic auto manufacturers are, but the help should not only come to those industries. While I'm sure the failing economy has much to do with the breakdown, these auto giants have been in trouble for far too long. Not only have they neglected the real necessity to create more fuel efficient cars(until it realized its models were running on ancient crap-"better late than never" moment), these companies lack the understanding and the need for R&D in sustainable alternative energy. <- we should have been doing this all this time..

now, this ignorance only fuels(pun intended) the breakdown of the economy.

Brutal for who? The auto workers? They have been massively overpaid for years. Let the sinking ship sink

I meant it could be brutal for the country as a whole if it DID shut them down. I totally agree with everything you have said here. I am in the same boat as you are. I was raised to be a GM guy, but that stopped at me. After having many a shatty GM, I moved on to much better vehicles. If they would eliminate the union and cut the Suit's pay, they could produce vehicles to the highest standards, at a reasonable price.

Here you go. Here are the numbers that float a lead balloon.

I think the economy will recover without paying for cars we didn't buy. I'm glad to see you not taking the loyalist approach. Loyalty is worthless, if the company you are loyal to is not providing a product that you can be loyal to.

The money comes out of my paycheck with or without the loan... without the loan i will have no more paycheck.. besides the fact that the money is coming out of the 700 billion dollar bailout

If they go under I lose my job along with 2 million other people... Michigan will be no more...

also the auto workers pay has absolutely nothing to do with them being in trouble. Alot of stores are going under. If you guys want to play a blame game BLAME THE BANKS THEY PUT US IN THIS MESS BY GIVING ANYBODY AND EVERYBODY A LOAN ...

You think this economy is bad now...HAHAHAHA let the big three go under and then see.. You people have no clue you don't live here.... I see they the effects every day.

Good point. I am not a union fan but if they don't get help there's going to be alot more people that have nothing left. The unions are WAY over paid but The banks are what got us into this. It's called predatory lending and to many big banks gave out home loans based on the fact that they wanted some of use to fail so they could get our money from interest and then from selling the home again. Why do you think they put so much emphasis on what otherhomes around your area are worth when you look into a home loan. It's not b/c they want you to have nice neighbors. It's b/c they want to know that if you default they can sell the house and make money.

Blame the banks for the failure but the unions for making it worse. it's a vicious cycle. but the banks did get the crisis rolling.

And the gov did give the white collar AIG (not a bank) 84 billion. then they went on a trip with "top earners" and spent over 1/2 million and then turned around and asked for over 30 billion MORE. and they got it. WTF is that.
