of course mixing them is ok. As long as they dont fight and have the name needs there is nothing wrong with it. one day they will just make a new species and then ill be a rich b*tch!

oh yeah ps can you swear on these threads or will i get warned for it?

please be careful when speaking of mixing herps.Plenty have same needs, and some of those same ones will kill each other. Also some are threatened by seeing a different type in its domain. Some same breeds such as gargoyles will eat each other as babies and juvies, most will fight as adults. Some frogs will readily feed on smaller ones if permitted.Lots of frogs are toxic to other herps, even just tomato frogs.Just keep in mind it could be stressed even though its not fighting. In the reptile community as a whole,it is looked down upon to do this.Ive watched showcase vivs from shops and hobbiest all around cali fall apart over time from trying it.If you love it and its going to be your pet then keep it safe as you can.Otherwise your doing a science project by mixing.Leos, cresteds, beards and a few others are fine with not having more than one male per viv.Even blue tongue skinks will fight over time.Just to much at risk. Please, this has been driven into me for over 15 20 years.I just dont want you guys to loose a loved one, lol.

You bring up some valid points, but you cant speak for the entire reptile community. Mixing herps is pretty kickass. Infact I do it all the time. But like Andy said, you better know what you're doing. It takes knowledge and patients to pull it off.

Why do you not trust ppl that have done this much longer than you?The same way you hav got smarter as each year passes is the same for me and the others. This MFK reptile community at least works hard to warn against the dangers of mixing herps.Im not speaking for all the reptile community when I state that they look down on it.Its what they have pounded into my brain for the last 20 years.Im still having trouble why you dont trust ppl with far more years under their belt through trial and error along with great success.I trust ppl and respect ppl all the time who have more experience than me with things.Im just baffled on this.

oh i totally agree with you about being careful when mixing herps. i only do it when i know they arent going to fight. i would never put something in the same tank if they fight.

I always try to see if they will be ok together and if they arent i always have plenty of back up tanks for my babies!

Also purchasing it was probably the worse thing you could of done for the gecko. Purchasing it will only cause the pet store to buy more and keep them in crappy conditions. Best thing you could of done for it was leave it be and let the Pet Store take the fault and lose the money for the gecko once they lose it.

I can vouch for the fact this was a very poorly ran store, and all of the herps are in extremely poor conditions. Fungi, Spider webs, Mold, Beetles, Fruit Flies - Every tank.

The simple purchase of a reptile at this low dollar price is not the reason this pet store is still in business.

It is the masses of ignorant fools who purchase DOGS and CATS from this pet store for high dollar due to their breed. When I visited last, they had many dogs in the $500-$1000 range such as Wymer rymer, Jack russels, and Dobbies, and un-papered Pits.. they were all crated in very unsanitary conditions, and I am AMAZED that this place hasn't been shut down like you see on AnimalCops.

Apparently the law in WA state is that if the animal is provided water, food, and shelter, the conditions they are being kept in can't be means for legal action. A local friend of mine has called the ASPCA on them many times, and nothing.

It's the idiots who purchase the dogs, because they want a specific breed, rather then adopt or save their money to save a life.

So don't jump on this girl for spending $20 on a reptile she wanted to personally save - It's minuscule in the grand scheme of things. If we wanted to really make a difference, we would all listen to Bob Barker and GET YOUR PET SPAY OR NEUTERED. .. and don't buy breed specific dogs from pet stores so you can fuel puppy mills - You might as well go hang out at the Mike Vick dog fighting farm if this is your thing.

Hahaha when we were there the guy was selling them as "AKC registered" for the "low price of 400 hundred" he even said they had their first shots but you could tell he was just making it up! Dude the one pit puppy had a nasty wound where you could see muscle and nastiness! He even sold one when we were there! It is so sad I couldnt even look at the puppies, it made me want to cry!
