YOu may think that going offf topic is no big deal, but going off topic makes the this forum, "Reptiles, Amphibians and Other Exotic Pets," pointless. Go to the lounge if you want to jack around or PM each other. We are here for seriousness, a little bit of friendly humour is fine, but you all are crossing the line.
Tyler while I agree with you that these folks are cutting corners in what they are doing as providers for these animals, it is their opinion and they can do what they please with their captives. While it is looked down upon in the reptile community by people who take this seriously in learning more about herpetoculture, its people like them who kinda ruin the validity of what we are trying to do here, which is EDUCATE, we are a minority in the pet hobbyist realm(while were growing in popularity) we still have alot to catch up to with aquaculture and mammilian and avian hobbies being the more dominant ones in this country.
Telling people its ok to mix and anaconda with a retic, or a cave gecko with a leopard gecko is very irresponsible. It's bad enough that we force these animals to live in a box, but for them to live with a species that is entirely different is just a way to show ignorance and arrogance by saying, im the captive and you will do as i say! So again not the right message to send to newer folks just getting started in the hobby.

ha ha some of you people are hypocrytes. You tell us not to go around saying oh your wrong your wrong but instead just state your opinion on what you think to do. But look all there is on this thread is people basically saying everything that we do is wrong about mixing herps and what not. Sure its human nature to want to prove someone else wrong and come out on top, but its causing more problems and its just pretty annoying.
So go ahead and state your opinions but dont go out of your way to say everything we do is wrong. Just because we may be semi new to the herp world doesnt mean what we are doing is incorrect. Sure we dont know as much info as some people on here but we surely arent harming our pets.

P.s. The only herps i mix are skunk and golden geckos.... so somebody please tell me im wrong and start another argument!

Mixing reptiles is a whole different challenge. You've got to know where your herps come from and whether or not they will interact in a peaceful way. They've got to have similar requirements and so on and so forth bla bla bla bla. What's wrong with recreating a natural environment for your herps? Hmm? Are you trying to tell me that herps should NEVER EVER under ANY circumstances be housed together? Are you saying that anyone who disagrees with this is automatically shunned from the all mighty, all knowing "reptile community"?
Ya know, I'm not trying to "yell" back at you, I'm just a very blunt person, and alot of older men in the "Reptile Community" judge me. So when people talk down to me about reptiles, it really pushes my buttons! >_<
Oh and BTW years are a load of steaming B.S. I know SO MANY dudes with FAR more years under their belt than me, who don't know jack ****. If you walk around thinking you know more than everyone else because you've had the same herps for 20 years, you're never going to learn anything. The people I take advice from around here are actually pretty young.
