Chinese Perch (almost) 3 month growth

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
^Hi

I am from Germany (Hessen near to Frankfurt) and i love these huge perch.

But i have some Questions, maybe someone could give me a hand:

1. How aggressive are these fish? Do they kill anything smaller or not? At which size is a tankmate a tankmate and no food?

2. Does anyone know where to get those in Germany? At what cost?

3. When i looked on the map where the fish lives and if we can trust on fishbase, these perch should be very cold-resistant. Is it possible to keep them in a pond in the garden in germany? It turns to maxium minus 15 degrees here, with some ice on the water (shure thing i keep a big hole open), no problem for my carps, but what's withe the chinese perch?

Thank you

Marcus

Hi Marcus, I'm not sure where you can get them where you are, but they do like cooler water. However, if ice starts to form the water will need to be pretty deep. I don't think it would be a good idea to keep them in a pond cold enough to freeze.

As far as tank mates, anything that will not fit in their mouth will be ok. They are very docile and peaceful.

Hi

My pond is about nearly 6 feet deep, so the ice does not get near the fish. Hmm it would be a risk i guess, but some reagions where this fish lives are far colder than germany.

Greetings

Oh and thanks for the answer concerning the behavior, sounds more peacefull than i'd expect them to be.

One more question about temperatures, do you know if smallmouth or largemouth bass could be kept at our temperatures?

We have both largemouth and small mouth bass here and it gets down to -20f (-29c). I think they'd be fine.

hey rally how big is yours now?
did it hit 9-10" or close to it?

I have three and one is nearly triple the sized of the others and they started out the same size, untill the bigger one started eating shrimp..
he's about 10.5" and the others are about 4-6"

Mines only about 5-6" right now. I'm keeping it in cool water and not over feeding, so I expect it to grow more slowly. I want this one to be around for a while, so I'm playing it safe. I was crushed when the 20" one died, so I'm doing everything I can to get this on there slowly and steadily.
