I agree. I am very fortunately with my cperch.
Mine current cperch started on live too, since it also wouldn't eat anything prepared. But I did the same trick when training pbass to get off live food.. drop in one feeder at a time. Eventually, after starving her for a day or two, I dropped it a small piece of market shrimp like a feeder and then he hit it. I did the same with the floating pellets, as the water column moves them and keeps her interest. (Worked with one of my cperch, but not the other).
