Chocolate Cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thanks, keep up the water changes, some people say to drop the temp. of the water used to refill.maybe post pics of both of them here, for M/F id

Females are stockier/shorter bodied. They also tend to have a rounder tail, where males will often have a more bifurcate one. What you describe sounds like pairing behavior to me. They can take a while before they actually spawn. Mine are similar size to yours right now and they have been doing the dance for a couple months but no eggs. It's just a matter of time most likely though.

Nice looking pair :), I wonder can Chocolate cichlids co-exist with True parrot cichlids?

I actually had a true parrot with these guys. They were okay together but the parrot chased the chocolates around and quickly became too dominant. Chocolates couldn't be comfortable so I had to rehome the psitticus.

I also have to big True Parrots in with them along with many small plecos. I'm in the process of moving around the Chocolates in two separate 220s so I can split up both the Longfin and Albino Arowana. Sunday I'm picking up 6 Cutteri to add to the Chocolates tanks. Just looking for easy to keep fish. I don't do anything special to get them to breed, they have a piece of slate that they hang out on even when not breeding, that's their spot. They don't fight or shake, etc. They must be a very good pair.

Wow!! They look good, The True Parrots look good also, too bad that can't live together, you must enjoy watching them :)
