A lot of folks would choose the nuchal hump or the bulging forehead on the female versus the male not having one and a lot larger.

Yeah years ago I had a huge pair in the 12"-14" range, both had enlarged bulges on their noses. I think in general however, males' will grow larger with time.

I miss my chocolates, they are a great bigger cichlid. Pretty chill to everyone else in the tank, colourful, out going and mine tried to spawn every chance possible. Awesome fish

Chocolates are gorgeous fish. I don't understand why they aren't more popular. Here's my little wild caught one from rapps. Can't wait til it gets bigger and that color comes out.

No this was back around 1999-2000. I got them from Petco. They were trade ins. I also purchased a monster pair of Uaru amphicanthoides that were in the same tank with them. Unfortunately I didn't even own a cell phone back then.
