Chunks missing from my ray...

Who in the tank has a mouth the size and shape of the wounds on your ray?

Doing a water change since it makes it easier for me to catch the flagtail. ammonia, nitrites are at 0ppm and nitrates are at 40ppm. Can't believe my petsmart didn't have any liquid nitrate or nitrite test kits...i had to buy the test strips so I'm not even sure how accurate those are. He's still eating normally he just go straight to hiding in the plants once he's done....

I really hope the flagtail is the culprit and this doesn't get worst. Thanks for the advice so far! i really appreciate it!

Closest thing would be the 8" geo...he's pretty aggressive and actually pushes my peacock bass around. I've been watching all the fish for awhile and no one has made a move at the ray. goign to turn off the lights to see if that'll bring out the bastard.

I dont think its your flag tail more likely to be the bass or geo. My friend added 2 rays to his bass tank and they took some big chunks out of 1 of the rays. If your ft was causing damage to your ray there would only be kiss marks as they are only able to rasp not chew.

I was thinking the same thing with the FT, the wounds would look different. But the bass....if they were attacking the ray, the wounds would be a lot bigger. their mouths are considerably larger than the ones on the ray. Well, I removed the FT so we'll see how the ray is in the morning.

^^ AGREE ^^
Also just because fish get along one min and have for awhile, doesnt mean they will get along forever. Ive had rays for awhile, and had 6" Bala Sharks in with them with no problems. But just yesterday, one of hte rays decided to make a snack out of the head of one of my Bala's.. Never ever thought that would happen, but it did.
Can be the same for you, just because everyone has gotten along for awhile, doesnt mean they get along forever. You can also change the attitude of everyone in the tank when adding new tankmates.

I had a ft with my rays for 3 yrs ft was 12"-14" with no probs never went near the rays then 1 month ago my big girl pounced on it and chewed its head off i was gutted but it just goes to show you never know what can happen.

was kind of hard to see this morn but the ray was out and about digging through the gravel so that's an improvement. Hoping he heals up well..

My friend and i were discussing this thread today and we both agree its your geo doing the damage because of the way your rays disc is shreaded and not chewed. You said you were going to turn the lights off in your tank to catch the culprit what was the out come?
