Cinder Block Stand for 120g?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
mines going to be on the grague floor i dont think that matters/effect the flooring haha so did the math so evenly seprate the blocks from eachother. each coulmn will have to be 2ft away from eachother correct?

Well your 120 has the same footprint as my 180 did. Here is a picof that stand and below that is the base concrete block layout. Each additional level just over lap the blocks below. You'll also need some 8x8x8" (single web)blocks.

whoa! that looking fun to make hahah might be a good project for me n my grandpa. since am doing this one alone am going to go with johns T design and then ricks design since me and my grandpa will be working on a 100+ tank for the grague, thanks guys for these awesome deisgns!

Just made one of these myself, moved my 120 to another room and found out the old wood stand was cracked on one side under the tank. So I rushed around to create another stand fast and did 3 columns of cinder blocks and made it 24" tall (I like that height). The put 2x4's & ply on top, for appearance sakes I skinned the blocks with 2x'4's & plywood - now I just need to stain the wood, lol. I'll try to grab some pics when I get home later.

Also you can get a table cloth of some cool color or solid color and place it on the cinder block stand. It will look like a table....usually people do it with metal stands

I would use a layer of wood on top at the very least, and probably between the bricks as well. My reasoning is that the cinder blocks are never perfectly level and the wood would compress to even out and high spots. In between could help stabilize and prevent any minor rocking while the top piece would definitly prevent any pressure points on the bottom of the tank. You wouldn't place any decor rocks directly on the bottom without any eggcrate right? Same principle applies except you're adding the weight of the water too.
