Cleaning a hog skull (graphic)

I know there are many variables, but how long do you think it would take the ants to completely devour all of the tissue off of a similarly sized head?

There are 1' tall x 1.5' wide ant hills all throughout the cow pastures, so I assume that more ants = faster skull cleaning.

Well, I'd say a day or two. I would try and keep it as close to your house as possible to deter scavengers if you choose that route.

When I was a kid I used to take northern pike heads and nail them to the barn by their gill covers, prop a stick in their mouths and let nature take it's course. By the end of summer the sticks had fallen out through the bottom of their mouths leaving the jaws agape showing off those knarley teeth. My dad thought I was a little strange as a child ..

here is a recent one. they are taking their time on this one but it is coming along. I think the cold weather has slowed them down some.

Yeah, we actually thought about doing that but it would put our camera out of commission for too long...

The smell is vented outside so it does not stay in the house and we had a friend shoot the hog and he gave us the head.

you have any links I could read up on to get a basic idea on this/what insects to use/setup/etc? Not sure how complicated it is or isn't.
I always thought of doing similar if I ever killed a deer.
