my oscar always bites me when when cleaning my tank i just take it as a love bite!

1 of my Oscars is exactly the same. I think it may just be a "love bite" though. It is 14"+ so I would expect it to hurt if my Oscar intended it to!

I have a 13.5" jag and I have just learned to take the repeated hits.

Your jag is clearly not serious about his attack then.

I suspect that a number of people contributing to this thread actually have no experience of a 10" + angry cichlid attacking their unprotected hand with a real desire to kill. Even a 9-10" RD/ midas or flowerhorn will rip your skin to pieces when it is really going for it. Doesn't matter how "tough" you are, it would be mere stupidity to simply put up with it on a regular basis.

Try cleaning the tank with a 10+ inch male jag protecting its fry lol

The only thing that bites me all the time are my clown loaches... everytime I put my hand in the tank they come bite me and swim around it... but it's really cute lol, I don't know if they think I'm food or are just playing, and it doesn't really hurt.. yet

I have to be on my guard at all times when my hand goes in. my 13.5" male dovii packs a serious bite. I think he likes the taste of my blood. When I see them coming close, I usually push them away, and they'l back off for about 10 secs. Also, I have found putting my whole arm in the tank quickly reduces the chance of a bite. I also have a towel to hand to dry my hair, face, and neck, and my arms, just from lifting up the lid to feed them, and sometimes I'll have to change my clothes. They are insane fish, but its all part of the fun.

Even with glove I'd still get wet.
If I'm reaching for rock & deco on the bottom, the water goes past my arm pit.
