'Cleveland' Rocks!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Aw Shucks! That may be the smart way to install the end glass, but not nearly as exciting as standing the tank on end. :naughty:
That's how Popeye would do it, he would cut the round holes out with his pipe and be done in 20 seconds, WITH fish!

The 'Cleveland' tank has been completed. Later today I will paint the bottom underneath while it's still tipped on its face. Also, and most important, I will clean the inside of the glass of any and all silicone smears. I was pretty neat most of the time, but it is almost impossible NOT to get the sealant smeared somewhere. The good news is that with a rag and mineral spirits, and a lot of careful scraping, no steel blades, to avoid scratches. The silicone, since it is not fully cured, it cleans up fairly easy and perfectly with a good effort.

Here is how I put pressure on the end panels.

And Completed.

Love that method of pulling tension on the glass with the suction cups and PVC pipe. Don't know if I'll ever have occasion to use it, but I'm filing it away in my memory banks just in case. Pull strength could be adjusted depending on the number, type of material and how rigid cross bars are used.

There are so many different ways to get things done, if there is a strong will, it will get done no matter what.

Okay Friendly Monsters, the 'Cleveland' is ready to be leak tested. I stayed up till almost 6 am last night AND the night before.
'Cleveland' ROCKS!.jpg

Further updates shall be posted during the fill! I feel very confident of a successful test!

I slep all in again! I'm Pooped! NO! Not in the pants... Oh so what!

Anyways, My Cleveland, she ain't leaking, now that's the topic of the day, My Cleveland LOVES Me!

Take a look for yourself, it's so obvy! AKA 'obvious'...

I still have a ton of work to do... lil bit at a time, lil bit erry day, after a while, but I need to rest! My hands are stiff like plywood and paint! An 'poxy too!

I filled Cleveland with water from Chicago and then I gave Chicago a 60+ percent water change, Yeah!

Thank you! I sorta strongly agree, it can't be helped!

Now, no more pics until I get the drawers installed and the doors hung. It will look like a cabinet, all handsome and sturdy. I have so many different ideas on how to set my stuff up. I will need to empty the 'Akron' to move it in with Cleveland and Chicago...

Sassafras Sassafras , what kind of fish do you keep? And what fish would you like to have?

I basically have three aquariums...

...a 300 gal. system (230 gal. display/70 gal sump) with Congo tetras, school of pearl danios, African glass catfish, African butterfly fishes, 20 red-tailed sharks, Kribensis and 3-4 types of loaches. Sort of a combo West African/Asian tank.

...a 435 gal. system (325 gal. display/ 112 gal. sump) mixed Amazon with lots of different tetras, angels, corydoras, etc.

...I'm in the process of setting up a 900 gal. system (730 gal. display/175 gal. sump) and that's where your second question applies, what would I like to have. I want this tank to have larger fish. I'm vacillating between large asian, stuff like datnoids, large barbs, maybe royal clown knife, black lancer cats, bala sharks, fire and tire-track eels, etc. or South American, Arowanas, maybe various S.A. cichids, smaller Cichla sp. maybe, some cool plecos, etc. I don't want anything larger than about half the width of the tank. I'm not one of these guys who would try to stuff a C. Temensis or Red Tail Cat into a tank as small as mine.

That's it, except for a couple quarantine tanks, 75 and 40 gal.

This is impressive stuff once again, you should consider building tanks like this for sale.
I reckon you would do well, especially with how quickly you can put them together

Wow, thanks for that reply... I'm such a novice at this sport... with Big Plans... and bigger tanks (rotten snicker!) But it's sorta true because I am so afraid to do a sump, I'm scared to the core of accidentally pouring all the water out of my tanks when I'm not looking! Eff all that crap! I got other filtration plans...

Some of my favorite common tropicals from 50 years ago, I still keep today, in the 'Akron', I have a dozen or so Giant Danios and at least 3 Pictus catfish, maybe 5 , I should have 6 because that is how many I bought but so hard to count!

Thanks for sharing all that, it's a lot to consider! I like giant barbs!, but I want a cold water tank with big fat Shiners, do they school? And then some Chain Pickerel, Juvies please!

Mkay, I gotta go make that stand, stand out! Door & Drawers, it's all rectangles and right angles... Checkers!

Looking forward to seeing you create the stand. Takes all kinds to make the world go 'round. You're afraid of sumps, I wouldn't have a large tank without one. I 'm afraid to tackle making a tank from scratch out of plywood, fiberglass and resin, and you do it with ease and no trepidation. Wonderful world!
