Ok, guys..I've mainly been in the cichlid forum here...cause well, thats what I have;) Anyway, I have come across and REALLY like this Clown knife...it took everything I had not to just buy it. Realizing I really need to know more about these guys I figured I'd come here and ask. What are they like, how big can they really get (I've seen anything from 13"-36") on the sites I looked at. The info tag on the tank they were in said around 16".

The tanks I have that I could use to put him in at the time would be, an empty 55 (was planning on using for SW), but of coarse I think to have him I would put that off. OR I have a 75, but I have a JD, 2 FMs, 1 Midas, 1 RD(maybe) and a rope fish...so I'm sure he can't go in there...but if he could that would be GREAT!! Oh and it's a odd 75 as it is actually 60" long and 13" wide.

The soonest I would be able to even consider a upgrade would be about 2-3 months.

Thanks in advance,

G

Yea my friend has a 28" in a 180g he has had it for 4 years and is still growing, he will easily get around 13+ in a year so be careful, then he becomes aggressive with less tank space. He will eventually slow down growth extremely after a year. Give him enough room and he will passive, will not harm a fish he cannot fit in his mouth unless provoked.

Ok, IF I did end up deciding to get one..they are about 5" now...would he be ok in the 55 or 75 for a couple months then I could...instead of getting my SW going, get a 180?? Would I even be able to CONSIDER this, is what I'm wanting to know..I can't move the fish from the 75 though.

Well, the guys in my 75 are all about 2-3". If he would be ok in a 55 for a couple months I would consider putting off the SW

should be ok, but the 180 is just a stepping stone to a bigger tank when your dealing with ck's.

Yes, I realize that..I would have a couple years though right?? Also, which would he be fine in...the 55 or the 75, I'm assuming the 55???

the 55 sounds like a better place for a small ck so that it doesnt have to contend with your other fish. you said it was empty so make shure its cycled before you place your ck in it. give it some hiding places and dont expect to see to much of it till around the 12-15" mark.

Ok, yes the 55 is empty, so IF I do decide to get him...I'll put him in there. I can use one of my HOBs from the 75 (I have a canister I want to replace it with anyway). I can also use some of the rock, driftwood or other things from it, to help the cycle along. It does still have the sand and eco-complete in the bottom...would that be a ok substrate to use for him, or would something else work better?? It should still have the bacteria in it, since I just tore the tank town about a week ago and still has some of the tank water in it. I will of coarse still remove the remaining water and add new, but the filter, sand, and whatever else I use from my established tank all should have bacteria on it.

Also, should I get just one, or would more then one be better? Is there anything else I should or could put w/ him...then one other question I have, a couple places I looked at said to add salt to the tank, is this right??
