Clown Knife

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok, well I am going to look up more info on them, and think it over a little more....but I am sure I will end up with a Clown Knife, like I said it really took EVERYTHING for me not to buy him right then and there!!! I can't believe I am really thinking about putting off my SW, I've been wanting one for a while, but this guy just screamed to me "I need to be your fish"!!!;)

Haha, LG is a Monsterfishkeeper now. Give it a year, she'll have Arowanas, Pbass, and Dats. Welcome to the egalitarian brotherhood (and sisterhood) of fish that murder other fish for snacks.

i keep my clown knife on sand and it is working out well
Cool, thanks!!! The more I am looking at these guys the more I am wanting him!!! Hey, can I keep more than one kind together??

Ok, well I have read you really shouldn't keep more then one, that they are aggressive to others of their kind, so just one it looks like. Now, I have read that, Discus, Angels, Oscars and a few others would be good tank mates...what is your opinion on that? What about a Jag or Sevs?

I may be blunt, but if you truly believe you cannot get a 300G+ tank for him in the next 5 years then do not get one. Otherwise, go for it!

Tank mates can be other fish that can hold its territory against the CK and are not too small to be eatebn. Think of fish that get at least 8-10". Severum's can be a good choice so long as the CK leaves them alone. Jags may cause more trouble then you can handle.

No definitly can't get more than one, when they are small they like pairs/groups because they feel safer but once they get mature they will fight to the death and it can happen fast overnight.

My friend has kept Angels with his, since they are tall they can't fit them in there mouths which is good, Discus.....well i don't know much but i would not risk it unless you really want them. Oscars seem docile i have seen them together.

Just try to avoid fish that take up the bottom and can bother him, plecos are a no no since they like to sneak up on a clown knife when its sleeping(they like taking rest on the bottom so sand would be good) Middle and Top dwellers are nice, arowanas can be kept with them(not Jardini) since they usually avoid each other other than feedings. In the future a 300g+ tank would be needed so just prepare for that.

When you do buy them try to get them onto dry/frozen foods asap, ask the seller to feed them dry/frozen food in front of you getting them off live foods such as feeders can be a pain in the ass, and in the future really expensive. Good luck

Oh, I like blunt..no reading between the lines, I wouldn't ask a question if I didn't want a honest answer. Yes..if I have 3-5 years to get it, I'm sure I will be able to.
I will not look into Jags then, just another fish I really liked and thought MAYBE I would be able to get if I was getting that big of a tank. Oh, well...maybe when I am able to get the 300, I can get jags for the 180??
