I would put him alone in the 55gal and teach him to eat all the different variety of foods while he is in there.. all types of food, sinking and floating type as well so when he someday goes into the big boy tank and there are tankmates he will know to eat everything .. be it food that sinks and food that floats and he will join the others instead of hiding.. mine was raised in a 55gal then 75gal and now 125gal and up.. you can teach him to eat of your fingers.. etc as they get to know you and bond with you.. and don't forget to find out what he was eating in the LFS ..if they were feeding him live food or if he is now on pellets.. and if it is live food write again for tips to get him onto pellets and frozen foods.. here is my boy.. they are absolutely wonderful fish..and mine never hides when he sees me around.. :D Mine is with 4 large severums and a big pleco..all is perfect among them.
Awsome!! I love him!!! How big is he, he looks huge?
Yeah, I don't really want to feed him live foods, if it is possible. Then maybe he wont think of his future tank mates as food. I feed my fish I have now, frozen foods like, bloodworms, beafheart, krill, and mysis shrimp, along with flake and pettets...so hopefully he will get accustom to those foods.

Thank you.. he is my really special boy.. depending on the size of the one you might purchase.. if he is only a little guy..i would suggest you wean him from live food slowly since i would not starve a small guy, it is alot of stress just being new to a tank..but once you got him healthy and eating good {guppies etc} then i would slowly start the weaning process} they are too fragile not to eat anything.. and changing from live food to pellets etc they can be stubborn.. ..if it was a larger guy you bought i would try right away all those foods you mentioned for his forever diet.. just in larger amounts and size as he grows:D

Eeek! Well, I don't want a tank full of food thats for sure!! I was thinking, if I am going to end up with a big tank anyway...would Bala sharks, Pacu or tin foil barbs be good???

So, are you saying a Jag WOULD be ok?? Cause don't tease me on this I love them!!
When you have a tank big enough for a pacu, you can house a CK any day.

Both have the same attitude and you may wind up with a mellow Jag. Throw a potential female in and see how it goes.
