Most cichlids, are not visually obvious from above, because most of their predators come from above in the form of birds, so natures reaction is to camoflage them from that angle, like in the photo below of carpintus.
From the side, carpintus has another visage altogether.
And although I am a cichlid guy, I agree goldfish, may be a good choice seeing from above, although koi are too large, and produce too much waste, for that amount of space.

It's to small for alot of fish. Its also probably not up to par in the filtration department for big or sensitive fish especially rays or arowana.I f
well.. it’s too small for a Datnoid.. and koi get too big and just not a fish I would wanna keep other then a koi pond. Was thinking a large school of Disk Tetras, with a bunch of neons, or green neons, or cardinals... and lastly maybe a stink ray... not even sure if (Potamotrygon scobina) is fair in my tank cause maybe it’s just not big enough... idk too much about stingrays. If all this doesn’t work I mite just get a flower horn with a big hump head I seen day before yeasterday... also seen some other cool guys. Or should I get a Mata Mata Turtle with a large school of Disk Tetras? Hmmmmmmmm....sO MaNy oPTioNs

My mom likes either a tonne of small fish.. or one or 2 large colourful fish... I would do all the maintainance... so I was thinking either a large group of disk tetras and green neons or one flowerhornI’d need to know more about your mother’s parameters.
Will she be doing the maintenance?
What is her experience with the hobby?
How long has she been established?
While being silly, it’s a somewhat serious question. I’d likely get my aunt a pea puffer, but my own mother would get 100 ghost shrimp.
LOL please don’t make be look dumb... I just wanted to show what I found in a lfs... will make another thread for that theSmall fish in a setup like this.
Definitely not an arowana or ray.
And I sincerely hope that the picture of the alligator gar was just for kicks and not considered for this tank?
Oh and BTW at first I taught it was 500L but it’s around 300 something at 80 US gallons... so now I’ve changed my plan accordingly Oof no idea why all the hate but nothing wrong with constructive criticism I guess... can always better my plans and ideasWhen I first saw this I thought it was a troll.

I like the above question too....is this really for your mom? Really? Or more for you?
I had a friend that had a reef setup in a tank like this bit his was custom made and had a center overflow that went to his basement sump. It did have a big dumb looking mh light above it to grow the coral. Really cool but totally impractical.
For this I agree with others, goldfish or schooling fish.
I have no hate. Thought I was pretty polite. Sorry a 500l tank in that setup isn't appropriate for most of the animals you listed. At 300l even less so. Good luck with whatever you decide...Oh and BTW at first I taught it was 500L but it’s around 300 something at 80 US gallons... so now I’ve changed my plan accordingly Oof no idea why all the hate but nothing wrong with constructive criticism I guess... can always better my plans and ideas
