Coffe Table Aquarium

Could a malawi or tanganyika setup work for this. How does the lighting work in a tank like this? Around the rim?
This is a possibility, some of the blue, and yellow Malawans would work seen from above or the side, and if room temp is mid to upper 70s F is good because the average water temp in lake Malawi is only mid 70sF.

How big do they get?

Idk...never kept rift lake cichlids.

If youre serious about a coffee table tank, check out the ones that aquavim makes. Idk how those other ones you pictured hold up. I know aquavim makes a nice tank though.

No offence but... there prices are abit too high... and Iam not too worried rn cause if I do decide to get it Iam not gonna rush

The ones in my photo above Nimbochromis usually top off around 8", and Labidochromis Caeruleus (the Electric yellow Malawan) usually hits 6-8 inches, which is about as big a fish as that size tank would handle. They are best housed in shoals, and would be best bought as juvies, to grow up together and work out territorial boundaries.
They might also coexist with the smaller Synodontus cats from the same lake.
